What
does art
have to do
with baseball?
In Boston
there is
an interesting
connection.
Isabella
Stewart Gardner,
a Boston
socialite,
opened a
magnificent
Venetian
home as a
museum in
1903. She
welcomed
visitors
to her home
with live
performances
of Bach,
Mozart, and
Schumann.
Here you
can gaze
in wonder
at the courtyard
full of flowers,
and viewed
one of the
nation's
finest collections
of art. Three
floors of
galleries
surround
a garden
courtyard
blooming
with life
in all seasons.
The galleries
are filled
with paintings,
sculpture,
tapestries,
furniture,
and decorative
arts from
cultures
spanning
thirty centuries.
Mrs. “Jack” as
she was often
called was
not only
a lover of
art was also
an avid Red
Sox fan.
This tour
will then
go to Fenway
Park, America’s
most beloved
baseball
park. You
can visit
the park
where the
Babe pitched,
The Kid hit,
Yaz dazzled
and Manny
and Ortiz
still thrill
young fans
today! Soak
up the rich
history and
hear the
echoes of
the past.
Touch the
Green Monster,
imagine being
one of the "Knights
of the Keyboard" as
you see the
view from
the Press
Box. This
is a tour
not to be
missed! |

Midnight
Ride

Revere

Travel
back in
time and
put yourself
in Paul
Revere’s
shoes during
the Revolutionary
Era. On
the night
of April
18, 1775,
silversmith
Paul Revere
left his
small wooden
home in
Boston's
North End
and set
out on
a journey
that would
make him
into a
legend.
Revere’s
home is
downtown
Boston's
oldest
building
and one
of the
few remaining
from an
early era
in the
history
of colonial
America.
The restored
dwelling,
with its
third story
front extension
removed,
resembles
its late
seventeenth
century
appearance.
Ninety
percent
of the
structure,
two doors,
three window
frames,
and portions
of the
flooring,
foundation,
inner wall
material
and raftering,
are original.
Upstairs
you will
find two
chambers
containing
period
furnishings
belonging
to the
Revere
family.
The year
2008 marks
the 100
th anniversary
of this
museum
and your
group may
experience
special
exhibits
celebrating
their centennial!
The tour
will continue
through
the Pierce/Hitchborn
House,
built about
1711, and
one of
the earliest
remaining
brick structures
in Boston.
The house
is an excellent
example
of early
Georgian
architecture.
The home
was built
for Moses
Pierce,
a glazier,
and was
later owned
by Nathaniel
Hichborn,
a boat
builder
and a cousin
of Paul
Revere.
Next
meet Paul
Revere
inside
the Old
North Church
and learn
more about
his life
and times.
Actor David
Conner
as Paul
Revere
will recount
Revere's
life in
pre-revolutionary
and revolutionary
Boston.
He describes
Revere's
youth in
the North
End, his
first affiliation
with the
Old North
as a teenage
bell ringer,
and sets
the record
straight
concerning
his midnight
ride.
Built
in 1723,
Old North
Church
is Boston's
oldest
church
building.
Two warning
lanterns
hung in
the church
steeple
on April
15, 1775.
Henry Wadsworth
Longfellow's
poem, The
Midnight
Ride of
Paul Revere,
published
during
the Civil
War, made
both Revere
and Old
North Church
internationally
known icons
of freedom. |
